Industry
and academic
Orders from persons employed by commercial organisations,
government departments and hospitals are classified as Industry. Academic prices
are available only to full-time or part-time staff at academic (degree-granting)
institutions or persons currently enrolled for tertiary courses holding a current
ID card from a tertiary institution. Please include your tertiary institution
ID number on the Order Form as validation of your academic status. Please contact
us if you wish to check or confirm your academic status. There are special student
prices available under the GradPlan. When purchasing
documentation on its own, please indicate the name and licence number of the
person or network for whom the documentation is intended.
Other information
Purchase of new single-user Stata licences
When you order a new single-user licence you receive one software
CD and one Complete Documentation Set (16 items) or Base Documentation Set (8
items). A single-user licence for your own use can be installed on your office
computer and on your home computer on the assumption that you can't be in two
places at once! However, a single-user licence installed on a computer in a
public area available to several users cannot also be installed on home computers
since two people could use the software at the same time. Single-user licences
cannot be installed on network servers. Stata licences are perpetual with no
annual fees. Updates for a given version are available free through your connection
to Stata from within the program. Upgrades to new versions when they are released
are available at special prices to current users..
Establishing Stata networks
A N-user network can be established within an institution or department
by a network purchase of a minimum of 2 users. The software can either be installed
on a server constrained to N simultaneous users or individual PC's or a combination
of both. Your cost, in addition to the initial single-user, is calculated by
adding the the cost of network user 2 plus additional users at the network user
3-10 rate plus additional users at the network user 11-25 rate, etc. You do
not receive a CD or any documentation for the additional network users although
you can purchase extra documentation or CDs. You can add extra users at any
time at the marginal rate for additional network users. A major advantage of
a network is that future upgrades may be purchased at the network upgrade rate.
Volume purchases
of new Stata single-user licences
The cost of purchasing N new single-user Stata licences in a single
order is the same as the cost of purchasing a new N-user Stata network as described
in the previous paragraph. You receive one software CD and one Complete Documentation
Set (16 items) or Base Documentation Set (8 items).
The advantage of the volume purchase is that you receive N individual
Stata licences that the user can install on both their work computer and their
home computer or laptop. Further, it is possible for some of these individual
users to upgrade to Stata/SE since the licences are not linked as for a network.
The disadvantage of the volume purchase is that future licences must
be purchased at the single-user rate, or through a new volume order. Future
upgrades of the individual licences will be at the single-user upgrade rate.
Stat/Transfer single users and networks
All orders regardless of size come with one software CD and one version
9 Manual. Network licences are based on the number of computers. There are separate
prices for Stat/Transfer installed on one, five or ten computers. These licences
are perpetual (no annual fees). There is an annual lease fee available for Stat/Transfer
installed on 25 or 50 computers.
Upgrading Stata
You need to cite your current Stata licence number in order to purchase
Stata 10 at upgrade prices. The cost to upgrade from Stata 9
is the same as upgrading from an earlier version. Licences purchased under an earlier GradPlan
may be upgraded to a Stata 10 single-user licence at the academic upgrade rate
but cannot be upgraded to be part of a network licence.
Upgrading N single-user Stata licences to a N-user
Stata 10 licence
If you currently have more than one single-user Stata 9 licence (or
earlier versions), you can upgrade to a N-user Stata 10 network. Your cost is
the sum of a single-user licence plus network user 2 plus additional users at
the network user 3-10 rate, etc. You receive one software CD and one Complete Documentation
Set (16 items) or Base Documentation Set (8 items). We need to know the Stata
9 licence numbers of the N current single users. You need to nominate one person
to hold the new N-user Stata 10 licence but we do not need the names of the actual
users. You can add then add extra users to your network at the normal rate for
network user 3-10, etc. This process will save you money now, particularly if
all the users do not need Complete documentation. And future upgrades will be cheaper
than purchasing N single-user licences. Licences purchased under an earlier
GradPlan cannot be upgraded to be part of a network licence.
Upgrading
If you upgrade (Stata/IC 10 to Stata/SE 10, Stata/IC 10 to Stata/MP2 or MP4,
Stata/SE 10 to Stata/MP2 or MP4) you receive a new licence. The previous licence becomes invalid.
If you have a network licence and wish to upgrade, you need to upgrade all users.
If only some of the users need Stata/SE or Stata/MP, you need to purchase new single-user
Stata/SE or Stata/MP licences or set up a new separate Stata/SE or Stata/MP network.
